Well, since I enjoy my threads once they've been aged nicely, I think that I'll post here than, shall I?
Talking 'bout D&D...So I haven't played D&D since the second edition rules and I'm totally lost. No more THAC0, only three types of saves, and ANYONE can pick locks? What the hell?
And now i hear that the 3.5 is going to be alienating me even more...It's gonna be tricky to catch up as is.
Anyone able to give me the skinny on stuff I'll need to memorize before playing? I don't have the time to read through the entire rules right now.

OR...
Basically, if you've done 2nd edition, 3.5 will be cake to understand. Although, adversely, I haven't played 2nd edition in....around 8 years maybe, so I can't quite remember much. I imagine, however, if you just run through the character creation rules, you'll probably find all of the major changes.
As far as the death of THACO goes...fuck...I can't even remember how THACO works now....
I got to the end of this and...realized how amazingly unhelpful it was...so...

Whens 4th edition being released? Is it still in the tba phase, or can I put off buying books for 3.5 and wait?
And yes, that was probably the least useful "helpful" post ever, you should get a trophy. Ah well. So, do the mechanics still run the same? As in pacing of the rounds and all the modifier stuffs?
I could pick a players manual, but it would be really kewl if someone had one that I could look through. Especially if the 4th ed. is going to be released soon. I can't afford to eat AND buy a ton of books, lol.

4th ed, from what I've heard, is coming out sometime...mid next year, if I remember correctly. I'm too lazy to find the actual info.
And like I said, it's been a long time since I've played 2nd edition, especially considering the fact that I was in the 6th grade at the time, so I can't remember the major differences. Considering THAC0 is gone though, basically you now have your D20 roll for attack, and it's vs your targets AC. No special calculations or what-not. That's really the only big thing I can remember changing...
Also, the only book you would have to buy to get the rule changes figured out would be the PHB. I would let you borrow mine, but I'm actually at the start of a campaign. I do have a PDF version, but I'm not sure how I would get it to you...I could...maybe email it <.<

Yeah, what with the school's prohibition on peer sharing it's kinda tough to "acquire" certain things by your lonesome.
If it's not too much of an issue it'd be kewl if you could email it. Sure, 4th edition might be out by the time I finish loading it, but that's how life goes. I think my email address is posted.
If not that's kewl too, I'll just check a book out on the spot or something. Learn-as-you-go philosophy...not that this doesn't piss everyone off or anything ^_^
