THIS GAME IS FULL
What: Spring Quarter 10th Level Rokugani Warrior When: From the beginning of April to the end of May Where: On campus, probably in the Bassetties What days/times: About one night weekly, subject to adjustment based on group preference, around 7-11pm (4-hour sessions)
In more depth, To those unfamiliar with the world of Rokugan, it is a game world made from the combined mythologies and cultures of Asia. It is set in a fantasy era that makes it mostly compatible with D&D 3.5, and it is saturated with dynamic story-lines that you should really enjoy.
Fortunately for you, you will not be expected to know all the ins and outs of Rokugani life, because you and your fellow party-members will be playing outsiders (called Gaijin). You will all be members of a dojo/academy of the Mantis Clan. The academy is called Merchant's Security, and it consists of members from all walks of life who are trained to defend important figures (like the merchants who employ many of them). Keep this in mind during character creation.
On the topic of characters, I want everyone to know that the first meeting (To Be Announced) will involve a lot of time put into creating your character's background and motivations. I've played in several games in which my cardboard cut-out character didn't quite know why he was even involved with the other cardboard characters and it killed the mood in a hurry. Therefore, I would like to ensure that all characters in this game are fleshed out with proper development.
As for the rules of character creation, there are some restrictions on what class levels you will be allowed to play in this game, described as follows: 1) No PC casters. This includes Psionics (who I consider the “other” casters) and other such classes. If you find yourself desperately wanting to take caster levels, I will allow you a chance to prove your worthiness by rolling a 20 on a 20-side. Otherwise, there will be few to no exceptions. 2) Your Base Attack Bonus must be at least 8 by your 10th level, reflecting that you have at least one class that is focal on physical combat. This rule also allows for exceptions, and rather than having to roll for it, you should show me your character design and I will simply say yes or no. 3) Due to some differences in the structure of the Rokugani world, (such as religious structure), some classes just won't be playable. There's no real set parameter on this, but I want to warn you so you don't get upset if you have to make changes. 4) I will allow virtually any material from D&D/compatible books so long as either 1) I have it, or 2) you have it and can run it by me. I will also specifically say that I am allowing material from The Book of Nine Swords, and I also have a decent load of pdf books. 5) Unless you really have a non-human race on mind, I will assume that all players will be human. This is partially because Rokugani culture will make things interesting enough with you being an outsider and I really don't think you need an additional handicap from being non-human. But, if you insist, there are some races that are more likely than others to end up in Rokugan and I can discuss that with you. Finally, I'll make a point about the game design. My aim is to make a series of missions that you should be able to complete at the ending of each session. With that, there should be few problems for individuals who miss a session. I will be offering nights on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays as candidates for weekly sessions. I will only ever have one session per week, but I ask that all players have at least two of these nights clear so that we can change up the meeting night weekly as necessary. If you have a tight schedule, it might mean you need to focus on the work/games you're already in.
Name________________________________________________ Character Class(s) of interest_________________________________ (if more than one idea)________________________________ ________________________________ Days Available (please mark and add preferred times): Wednesday Thursday Friday (and just because) Saturday
And let's start brainstorming your character background. To do this, you'll probably need to know some things about Rokugani history / society. I don't have very much of that on pdf, but I do have one of the books. If you want more inspiration, I can give you other material. For now, I will tell you that the game will start in the middle of the Great Clan War, and that we are just at the point where the Scorpion clan has attempted to overthrow the empire. The Emperor was murdered, but his son lived and inherited the rule of Rokugan, making his first decree to completely strike the Scorpion Clan from all records and disband them. Amongst the other clans, distrust and bitterness is churning. The Mantis, who are not yet a major clan, still thrive on their merchant islands while interacting with the other clans. Because of that, you have the joy of not having any sworn enemies amongst the clans, though few really trust you that much, anyway! Keep in mind that, unless you actually request to be of Mantis blood, it will be assumed that you are actually Gaijin under hire of the Mantis clan.
And now that I've made you read all this, please reply if you are interested in my game. Please include your application data and any current questions you have. You can contact me here on proboards or on my hotmail account. fang.of.fenris@hotmail.com Peace!
