To those involved in this campaign:
Surprise! I will be posting updates to our game on proboards! ...hopefully weekly and in a timely fashion...
During out last major meeting, we determined that the best meeting night on average is Wednesdays, and that Thursday will be our alternated day. Next week (April 9th) will not be the start of our game, but the completion of our character generation. The game will start on the 16th!
More later! - Phil

Alrighty, folks! I have decided to add onto this plan by including a stipulation that all players need to post whether or not they can attend by the night before the game. If you don't post by then, your character will not receive payment for the night's game. (though you still get xp!!!) On that note, I will also try to have my informational posts up by the Tuesday of every week before the game. If I fail, I will allow every player a free reroll during game to be fair, but only if you remember to ask.

So here's some juicy bits to prepare you for game number one. I also want to mention that the game will not start until 7:45-8pm due to my having forgotten to write down a work obligation that hadn't been talked about since three weeks ago. Whoops! Anyhow, a quick reply with a "yes, I'm coming" or a "no, I'm not" will be sufficient for Player Characters to log in. Remember, if you don't, you will get no money for the week! And now, I present you with your mission:Mission No. 1: the Crane Caravan
Briefing: Messengers from the Crane clan Doji have come to Merchant's Confidence bearing a request from their daimyo, Doji Hoturi himself. Calling upon a on favor when Hoturi helped the Guild keep its good name years ago in the midst of a scandal, he has now asked that the Guild send reliable brothers help watch over the progress of one of their many caravans between their Northern and Southern territories. You will begin your travels in the Lonely Shore City (C13), and your goal is to reach Kyuden Doji (C6). The letter has asked that you keep this mission in confidence and has said little else, but you can already surmise that you will be guarding someone or something on this journey. For the purpose of game mechanics, you were already in the mainland when you received this message. As a matter of fact, this is most of the reason you were chosen. Though you weren't all together when you were summoned, you were neither alone in your quests. Try to figure out your most recent journeys and who you were with up to this point. You can easily go for generic story-lines on this point, and I probably won't need to use them in the game, but it could be useful in future times. In addition, you all have sufficient trail rations for this expedition as well as steeds to bear your journey. The payment for this job is more in the realm of prestige, honor, and the ability to call favors than any immediate monetary compensation. Still, you will be paid when the job is done.

O-kaaaayyyyy! So, to anyone who has been checking this thread, I do apologize for not updating this session-prep earlier this week. I'm not stressing out about it, but for your sake, I will try to get these out earlier in future times. Next thing: As Keith called for, I think it would be a good idea if somebody with enough time kept a chronicle of our game on this forum. If any of you have the spare time / will for it, I support your posts! Now, for the game: Where we left off, the party was at the foot a pass through of the Spine of the World Mountains. You had just cleared a potential conflict up between two of the captains. And, earlier on, you found out from monks that a very bad omen has passed through the world. Hooray! ... As for this week's session: expect to fight. I don't have much else to tell you before the game starts, but please do try to have your character backgrounds written up before the next session. Also, if I may make copies of your character sheets over the next week, that would be sweet! I have an Excel template for character sheets that you may want to use for leveling up. That would also be easier for me to copy than a hard copy, but I leave it to you. Anyhow, I'll see you tomorrow! I may not be at the GEEC meeting, but I shouldn't be late for the session. Later!

First off, I have a few important announcements. As much as I try to comb through my weekly schedule to make sure things pan out well, I do miss things. This week, I spaced out that I cannot be both at the game and at a friend's sushi night party simultaneously. I'd try to weasel my way out of the party, but I promised several people I'd be there. So, as a result, tonight's game will start at 7:30pm! You'll see me at the GEEC meeting, then I'll bugger off for an hour, then I'll be back. I'll devote the first half-hour or so to recapping the story, answering questions, and resolving unsolved bits. As far as I know, Emy and Andrew are coming, whereas Kenji is not. For the rest of you, what's up?
On the topic of scheduling, I want to tell everyone that our campaign will take a break next week. Next W-day, I will be having my own sushi night party (you're welcome to come), and I will be unavailable. However, I am planning to assemble a one-shot game for some of my dorm-buddies that week and I would appreciate it if one or two of you could help me explain things. Yes, they are newbies, so be nice! As always, let me know if you are interested.
And finally, the game!: We left of with a resounding defeat, a stolen artifact, and a terrific blood-sorcerer. The good side of things, you guys still kicked ass and looked awesome! Soon, you will arrive at the end of your caravan trail. Be thinking about how you will handle the situation, as you were unsuccessful at completing your task, and approximately 4 carts of valuables were destroyed and not quite 60 of the troops died. Fortunately for you, you guys are mercenaries and won't have to commit seppuku. Unfortunately, you're guild's reputation will be on the line and you will likely get less (if any) of the payment you had originally been offered. Much of your future interactions will be determined by how you handle yourselves tonight.
That's all! Chew on this while you wait for the game to start tonight. I'll see you there!

It's been requested a couple of times now, so here we go with the session notes already. I understand that they may be abrupt, confusing, obscene, formatted poorly, written poorly, proofread poorly, etc. Sorry.
Phil's Rokugan Campaign Notes
Edited for readability. And because some sections I just didn't like.
Part One: Wherein we meet what we're guarding. A caravan. Crane caravan. We're introduced to the senior officers: Dovi Tomoki- Focused - famous for it - don't lie to him. Yuki - Cheerful - sarcastic - painfully optimistic Chikara - Temperamental, strong Minoru - Young and nervous, inexperienced We've been specially assigned to the middle unit of the caravan, which is more concealed and better guarded. Tomoki informs us that this one is special. Would we like to know what's in it? Well ya' can't know what's in it. But it's an important artifact and there have been magic wards placed on the cart. So don't look. We're given horses ("powerful ones") and we hope none of them get slain.
An "amount of time" passes. We reach Wolf city with no complications. Claim to fame is communcations setup (giant mirrors) brief stop for food rations.
Next stop: Wasp Clan City (It was named, but I missed it and didn't feel like interrupting to get it)
Peasants seem happy (Andrew wants to kill them, take 'em down a peg) We notice, (and share with Emily, who rolled poorly and was therefore oblivious) that Tomoki is becoming tense, Chikara is testy, Minoru is nervous. Our awesome Rokugani knowledge informs us that historically this place is not known for it's bandits. So we ask around (Ken considers suicide for a character with better stats). We find out (surprise) that there's actually nothing wrong with this town, but Crane get nervous as they leave their territory. (Concentration check! We felt a sense of foreboding!) Several officers, (Tomoki) vomited. Emily thinks (shock!) something might be wrong. It is described as a "disturbance in the ki" (as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.) Tomoki informs us that we should "sleep lightly tonight. We pass a monastery. Ken suggests that we ask the severely unhappy monks inside about "Hey, what the fuck's going on? (with the ki)"
The Elder of the monastery has fallen ill, and the monks believe a terrible evil has been unleashed, not seen since the "Days of Thunder" (A time when several clan fathers fought to trap Fu Leng in the Black Scrolls). They give us plain (but filling!) food and drink. Huzzah!
Moving on Frost-something village Caravan takes a turn for the worse. Tension is increasing and Chikara is reprimanded publicly for being an ass to the people below him. Their is a wagon accident, and it is repaired, but we have to stay for the night. The guards on the watch discuss their nervousness over taking such a predictable path. The next morning, a flustered Chikara demans attention. "Tomoki, we need to find another path." He worries that we will be ambushed along the route. Tomoki argues that taking the artifact through Lion territory puts it in danger as well, and needlessly delays the caravan. They continue arguing, and Tomoki pops his katana, asking if Chikara will challenge him. Chikara sneers saying that he doesn't have to, that the men around him are challenging him. Tomoki says that he cannot allow the caravan to be driven off course, and if Chikara wants to lead it elsewhere, he must be slain first. Ken steps forward as the voice of reason, essentially saying "Don't divide the group now in this time of tension. Pretty please." The conflict dies. I'm asked to join Tomoki, Chikara and the other officers on a walk - Tea Ceremony! Fuck yes!
Interruption! Random people walk in on the session!
Chikara wants us to take an alternate route to avoid the mountain pass. Tomoki holds that there must be no delay. Yuki agrees with Tomoki, and when asked for my opinion, I follow as well (More people walk in! Yeah!)
We stick with Tomoki and move on.
We cross a small town, known for its food production (A-15) and that sells it's talents to the highest bidder.
"This place sucks!" - Phil
We're about to hit the mountain pass Chikara was so afraid of. And thus endeth session one.
